Hello old timers! How are you all doing? I hope well. I miss you-even the ones I see every B-day. :-)
I am wondering if any of you have any writing or artwork you would like to submit to the literary mag. Or if you have any friends you can pass this on to.
Just email your writing or artwork at gabouryv@averillpark.k12.ny.us ASAP. Stephen Roff is our editor so you may even hand something to him tomorrow if you would like, though a disk of some kind would make it easier to edit--or an attachment. :-)
Hope all is good. Keep in touch!

Soundtrack to your Life 2007
"What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like stars at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare."
W.H. Davies
Greetings scholars.
I know your brain may be begging for a break and for vacation, but wait! Hold on! Not just yet! At this point every year we may wonder if the change of the calender year really does help to alter who we are and what we want to be. Maybe we look back and think "Wow! How can I top THAT!" Or maybe we think, 'Whew, thank goodness that messy year is over, this year has got to be better!"
Whatever your ideas about the ending of the old year and the start of the new, it does mean a break from school and perhaps a time of reflection--Hmm, do I want to attend summer school? Maybe I should do my work! Or, hmm, I would like to be in honors next year, I better step it up!
So, I want YOU to reflect. I want you to revisit this year. The good, the bad and the in-between. Locate 5-10 moments in 2007 that have marked your life in some way. Write about them. Maybe you have a song that helps explain that time period and emotion. Be sure to explain it! The assignment is to reflect and soundtrack (I am using it as a verb here, yes, I just made it up) your past year. You do not need a song for every moment, but you do need an explanation (remember to work on details and descriptions in your writing) for each event.
Please post your writing.
Enjoy!

What will YOUR verse be?
Good day scholars. Today you are going to write about the idea within this quote and what are your life goals? What will your verse be? (You may even discuss a poem you really enjoy and how it helps bring more meaning to your life.)You may even write in prose.
“We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, ‘O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?’ Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?”
Enjoy life!

OK Old Timers . . .AKA sophs, jrs and seniors
It has come to my attention that some of you feel maligned by the idea that I am doing a blog with my current freshmen and I didn't do it with you. Sorry, one never knows when great ideas will strike! So a suggestion has been made-to allow oldies to post to the blog. My worry is that your talent will overshadow and silence my newbies (ahem). So another idea was suggestioned-make a blog for the old timers! Brilliant! Thank you Jared! So, let's give it a try. Remember to have fun but no slicing and dicing of people's feelings-especially when it gets religious and political (ahem!). This should be a safe fun place to write and be with other writers and thinkers.
I will post questions-sometimes they will be the same questions as the newbies get, othertimes they may different. This week I will post the same question (you are gonna LOVE it!), but feel free to go back in time and respond to old newbie questions as well. Have fun!!!!
The question is (drum roll please) . . . if you could have any special super power what would it be and why? What would you do with this power (a little antecdote would be fun, that means a little story showing what you would do)? Would you use to help the world or just yourself? Would you be a bad guy and abuse your power?
This is a work in progress-so bear with me. Also please sign your name so we all know who you are . . . :-)
Enjoy and peace (stealing that from Christian aka a newbie),
Ms. Gaboury
